Dear Year 6 Pupil,
|
We
are Year 7 Council members and although we have only been at Copley High
for a few months, we have lots to
tell you about how much we have enjoyed it and what you have to look
forward to. Most of us were nervous at the thought of coming to a
much bigger school but Prefects (these are the ones wearing the black
jumpers) were with us in our form rooms and they helped us find our way
around. After a week we knew the school really well. It was
great having a Breakfast Club and lockers to keep your things safe in,
lessons were interesting and homework wasn't as frightening as we thought
it would be! There is a homework help club and work rooms you can use at
dinner times, as well as the LRC. |

We've taken part
in lots of activities since starting in our first year. In October, the
school has the cross-country fundraising run. Each year, a theme is
chosen by the school council members and this years theme is 'Charity
begins at Home' - each form group in the school will nominate a charity
to send their money raised to. Last year, in conjunction with Key 103 Radio Station
the school raised over £2500 for the charity 'Cash for Kids' which supports children in Manchester - as well as
money for our school.
It will be our
very first 'Cross Country' Run and we are looking forward to dressing up
and raising lots of money for the charity too! |
|
As Council
representatives we will be helping at events like Parents
Evenings; helping Year 6 pupils when they come to see the 'Moving Up'
performance by GW Theatre and you may see us on the Open evening. Last
years Year 7 (now Year 8) went on some trips out to the Film Works, Bowling and Alton
Towers. We also have Star Assemblies where we are rewarded for good
behaviour with a special fun assembly every half term. |

There are plenty
of things to do at dinner times - the canteen serves good, healthy food
and chips on Fridays!
There are work and social rooms to sit
in, we can play all sorts of sports on the astro-turf or use the
trampoline,
table tennis, swimming etc. in the Recreation Centre or join the choir or
practice dance. |
Year
and School Councils meet regularly - they might be planning how to improve the
queue rota at Dinner times or writing their Year's theme for the week or
discussing different fund-raising ideas or organising their 'Leavers Do' as
Year 11 doing at the moment. We are looking forward to seeing you at Copley and
we are sure that you will enjoy your first year as much as we
have. See you in September!
