Stalybridge Town Crest - The Motto means 'Nothing without Labour'

Summit Challenge - Monday 8th February, 2010

The Summit Challenge (Students Undertaking More Maths In Tameside) is a event, collaboratively produced by staff at Copley (Andrew Hazlehurst) and West Hill (Charlie Jackson).  Copley has Specialist Status in Mathematics and Computing, whilst West Hill has Specialist Status for Science and Mathematics.

Maths is number 1! That was the feeling of the 72 secondary school pupils who gathered at Dukinfield Town Hall.

Now in its sixth year, this event continues to highlight a fun and challenging side to mathematics. Year 7 pupils spent the morning undertaking a range of Maths-related puzzles with a European theme. This was then followed up with a logic puzzle and brainteasers.

As in previous years, the event was sponsored by Ashton Sixth Form College. A team of six each represented the following schools: Alder, All Saints, Audenshaw, Copley, Droylsden, Fairfield, Longdendale, Mossley Hollins, New Charter Academy, St Damien’s, St Thomas Moore and West Hill.

Dukinfield Town Hall once again played host to the annual Tameside Maths Summit Challenge on Monday 8th February. Now in its sixth year, the event is well established in the secondary school calendar. Twelve secondary schools from all over Tameside each sent a team of six Year 7 pupils to undertake mind-boggling mathematical challenges and puzzles.

After a very close run event, Copley came through triumphant with Longdendale second and Fairfield third. There were also awards won for outstanding contributions by individuals.

As well as a shield, each winner received a gold cup to keep.

A Year 8 “Design Wars” Challenge has also been organised for April.

Well Done!
