Lesson 5 |
The school will day will finish
slightly earlier on Wednesday to allow for Staff Training to take place.
The school day at Copley starts early. Many pupils and staff arrive early.
Pupils arrive, dressed in full school uniform with school bags. Pupils are
allowed to enter the building from 8.00am.
Pupils should aim to arrive
by 8.30am but all pupils must arrive in school by 8.38am. Pupils behave in a
calm and civilised manner and organise themselves for the day.
All pupils have a personal locker which belongs to them for five years.
Coats should be put in
lockers immediately pupils arrive in school and BEFORE registration. Form
rooms are available for pupils to use before school as they wait for
registration. A breakfast facility is provided by the catering staff from
8.00am.
Staff meet in the staff room on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings
promptly at 8.30am for a briefing from the Head and an exchange of
information. On other days, any urgent notices are places on the 'Today'
board in the staff room. Registration is now done electronically.
Registration begins promptly at 8.40am with all pupils in form rooms.
The register is called with pupils seated facing the teacher and in silence.
Tutors may remind pupils of any important information and events for the
day. For some years there
is usually an assembly held in the hall. On the days when the form has no
assembly, the atmosphere will be calm and quiet. Pupils should be
engaged in a purposeful activity or talking quietly.
At 9.00am, the class are
dismissed in an orderly fashion when the bell rings and the room is left
ready for the first lesson.
Lesson 2 begins at 10.00am.
During lesson times corridors are quiet. Pupils only leave
classrooms with the permission of the teacher. Teachers may allow
pupils to go to the toilets in an emergency and will give a toilet pass to
the pupil. The toilets are located near the reception office and
pupils must report to the receptionist for access. Pupils who do not
feel well will be kept under observation by the teacher and may be sent to
the reception office with a medical pass.
The end of the lesson is
controlled by the teacher and pupils leave quietly when the bell goes.
Bags should ideally be in lockers but, if carried, should not be on
shoulders. Pupils move swiftly and quietly to their next lesson by the
shortest route. The one-way system is observed.
During break at 11.00am,
pupils may use the drink and snack machines and tuck shop in the Main Hall.
Also, toast is available via the canteen. The school fence marks the
boundary of the school. Pupils must not leave the school site without
permission. Drinks are not taken out of the Main Hall.
Eating and drinking in the Science labs, IT rooms, or Library is not
allowed.
The bell sounds at 11.15am
for the end break and lesson 3 begins. Each day one form carries out a brief
litter collection around the corridors at the end of break.
At 11.15am, lesson 3 begins and lasts for 1 hour. Lesson 4 begins at 12.15pm
till 1.15pm. Pupils should move calmly and quietly between lessons observing the
one-way system.
Lunchtime starts at 1.15pm
and lasts for 45 minutes. Many pupils have lunch in the Main Hall.
There is a daily rota so that each year group has a turn at being first.
Year 11 pupils are allowed to join a parallel queue at any time. At 2.13pm
the warning bell for registration will ring.
Pupils are expected to
collect lunch on trays and return all trays and used crockery and cutlery at
the end of the meal. All disposable litter should be place in the bins
provided. Hot food should not be removed from the Main Hall.
There are usually a number of Copley Club activities to choose from.
Some pupils involved in activities may get an early lunch pass from
teachers.
Once again, to ensure safety,
pupils do not leave the premises, except for the small number who go home
for lunch. The fence marks the boundary of the school grounds.
At 2pm, lesson 5 begins and lasts for 1 hour. Afternoon registration is
taken during this lesson.
School finishes at
3pm. Classrooms are left tidy and chairs are placed on tables
to help the cleaners. Pupils should collect coats from lockers
and ensure they have everything they need for homework. Some pupils
will be remaining behind for activities.
On the way, to and from
school, our pupils remember that they are representing the school.
They show respect for other people and are friendly and polite.
Uniform is worn correctly on the way to and from school. Our pupils
behave well on buses - both on public services and on school services.
Throughout the day, pupils
and teachers talk to each other in a polite friendly and courteous manner
based on mutual respect for the aims of the school.
