Stalybridge Town Crest - The Motto means 'Nothing without Labour'

School

A Learning School

Visitors comment on the purposeful atmosphere in the school. The active leadership of the headteacher and senior staff sets high expectations during the school day.

A Clean School

The first thing visitors to the school notice as soon as they enter the building is how well it is cared for by the school community. They combined efforts of pupils, teachers, caretakers and cleaning staff keep the school clean and very well maintained.

A Safe and Secure School

Copley has the advantage of being one large building with most classrooms on one level. New pupils get to know their way around quickly and easily. Bad weather is not a problem at Copley - pupils can remain indoors safe and warm. All pupils are provided with their own personal locker. A high level of supervision is evident throughout the school day with senior staff very prominent. This is supported by the comprehensive CCTV system in the school and the playground.

A well-equipped School

Copley's classrooms are well looked after. They are almost all carpeted. Specialist accommodation is very good with six spacious newly fitted Science Laboratories, Design & Technology  and Art & Design specialist rooms, a recently refurbished Food Technology Suite, and four ICT suites with the latest industry standard equipment. The Music suite has two specialist classrooms with practice rooms and a recording studio. The Drama studio is a large well equipped space with lighting and sound facilities for lessons and as a venue for music , drama and dance productions.

A cool School

All the school's classrooms are air conditioned, including the key areas of Science, Music, ICT and Food Technology. In hot weather this makes a huge difference and enable effective teaching and learning to continue. The examination hall is also air conditioned - a great boon to students taking summer examinations!

The school has benefited from a modernisation and expansion programme which has greatly enhanced the already excellent facilities. Visitors to the school arrive at the school's welcoming entrance and reception area - separate entrances for pupils to access the school and recreation centre are clearly sign-posted. This area also contains the Learning Resource Area (LRC). This has been described as a school library for the 21st Century.

The school shares an extensive site and superb facilities with Copley Recreation Centre which we use for all our indoor and outdoor activities. Pupils have their own entrance to the Centre and the partnership with the Recreation Centre brings many benefits to our pupils. Facilities include a large Sports Hall and Gymnasium.  We also have access to tow squash courts, the swimming pool and multi-gym.

Copley High School is an acknowledged centre of good practice in the field of Special Educational Needs in mainstream school and the Learning Support Unit has it's own separate entrance on an upper level which is also accessible via a lift.

Important events in the life of the school include our annual Cross Country Run, held in October, in which the whole school takes part and our annual Sports Day for the whole school in the Summer Term. We have a structured Charities Policy which includes a balance of local, national and international causes.

The two school halls are used for a variety of purposes. The Main Hall serves as the dining area at lunchtime and is the base for a variety of facilities popular with pupils. These include the snacks and drink vending machines and the provision of a Breakfast Club and toast service at break. The Assembly Hall is used for assembly and other pupil meetings as well as containing the Drama Studio.

We also have a School Council. Pupils put forward their ideas and concerns which are carefully considered by senior staff. Agenda items are put to the year council after discussions in form period. Each form elects representatives to the Year Council. Year Councils then elect two members to go to the full School Council. Selected items from each year council are then chosen for the School Council agenda.

Visitors will also note that pupil lockers can be found throughout the school building. Every pupil at Copley has a personal locker - provided free when they arrive at the school. the locker is a key element in both personal organisation and security.

We are therefore confident that Copley's buildings, facility and resources enable us to offer all our pupils everything necessary for an enjoyable and effective education.
