Parents Success in education depends on a partnership between home and school. There are many opportunities for parents of Copley pupils to establish a very close relationship with our School. We have a very high level of attendance at Parents' Evenings.
Our pupils know what is expected of them in lessons. Teachers check carefully to see that they understand the work. We encourage pupils to ask for help. Through regular assessment we measure progress against baseline data. Twice a year you will receive information on your child's progress. This information builds into a complete record of your son or daughter's progress through Copley. We take pupils from many different primary schools. To build on the good work done in the primary schools and to develop children's skills effectively, we think very carefully about how we organise our pupils' learning. We use information from national test, primary schools, parents and our own assessment to learn as much as possible about each individual pupil. In Year seven pupils are taught in form groups for many subjects but are in sets for Maths. In Years eight and nine, pupils are grouped by ability in some subjects. In Years ten and eleven, pupils are placed in examination groups which may depend on their ability. The keynote of our approach is flexibility. We aim to ensure that all pupils are highly motivated and that boys and girls of all abilities are helped to achieve their very best. The success of our approach is indicated by the fact that pupils across the whole ability range pass an average of over nine subjects at GCSE. Careful monitoring of progress and excellent communications with parent ensure that pupils are stretched to reach their full potential. We encourage parents to contact the school immediately if they have any worries or concerns. A telephone call may sort out the problem or an appointment to speak with a member of staff may be arranged. We expect parents to play a full part in helping to secure high standards of work. Your active support for our aims regarding dress, attendance, punctuality, behaviour and homework helps us to help your child learn. |
