Our Aims

The Copley aims, produced and developed by our staff are meant to be practical and constructive. They are aims to be used. Our aims are referred to constantly in planning for our future. They demonstrate our belief that a school should actively promote positive moral values in everything it does. We are now in our third year as a designated specialist college in Maths and Computing. These two subjects are at the heart of success in the curriculum - Maths skills being needed at all levels of economy and society and ICT, now the third basic skill. We are making innovative use of ICT to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in ICT lessons but also in all other subject across the curriculum and in every classroom.

Blitz - our Dance Group!

Our aims attempt to describe how life at Copley should be lived by all the people who work here - children and adults. This emphasis on the quality of everyday experience at Copley is the necessary foundation for achievement - in public examinations and in the development of responsible and active young people.

Looking Forward to our Future

For the 21st Century, pupils must behave differently as learners. We aim to support pupils in becoming independent learners - and thinkers! In the coming year, we will be extending the development of the school's Virtual Learning Environment and online teaching materials with access for pupils at school and from home. The last year has seen exciting developments including increased access to ICT for all through the extension of wireless technology to all areas of the school and digital projectors and interactive whiteboards in every classroom.

The redevelopment of Copley Recreation Centre facilities has also added to Copley pupils' experience, now providing first-class sports facilities.  The old all-weather pitch has now become four modern games courts which will be used by our pupils during the school day.

Please study our aims carefully -

At Copley we believe in:

The right of everyone to be happy.

The need for everyone to respect each other.

The need for everyone to have self-respect.

The right of everyone to learn and develop.

The need for everyone to help each other.

We try hard to put them in to practice.

Visitors often comment on the purposeful atmosphere of the school and praise the high standards of discipline and on how the pupils are polite and friendly. They notice on how well the school is cared for by the school community. We are a safe and secure school and new pupils get to know their way around quickly and easily. All pupils are provided with a personal locker to keep their possessions safe. They have choices before school, at break time and during lunchtime to use the school building or playground. A high level of staff supervision is evident throughout the school day with senior staff very prominent. This is supported by a comprehensive CCTV system in the school and the playground.
